Tassimo Brewbot vs. Nespresso Single Cup - Which Is Better?

If' you've been reading the articles here at then you probably know that I'm not a huge fan of the single cup coffee/espresso machines that are powered by pods or cups or capsules or whatever. I'm an espresso machine guy and I like the tried and true traditional espresso makers.

But I'm slowly starting to come around. These single-cup machines are just so wildly popular that I eventually had to see what all the fuss was about. When I started really looking into them, I realized that they weren't the evil espresso machine-killers that I originally thought!

Which Single-Cup Machine Is Right For You?

Today I'm going to pit the Tassimo Brewbot series up against the Nespresso series of single-cup coffee makers so that we can figure out which machine is right for you.

First off, I've written extensively on every one of the machines in these two series. You can read the Tassimo reviews by clicking the links at the bottom of this page, and you can find the Nespresso reviews by clicking the Nespresso link on the menu to the right of this page.

So let's compare these two machines and see what we can come up with!

Let's Look At Price

If price is the deciding factor then the choice becomes really easy. That's because the Tassimo machines are almost all MUCH much cheaper then Nespresso.

Tassimo's range from around $129 for the basic model ($99 on sale when you can find it) up to around $169 ($130 on sale when you can find it - usually at our web site!). Prices are going to fluctuate around that range depending on how many bells and whistles you want in your machine, and you can read my reviews to learn about those bells and whistles.

Nespresso machines, on the other hand, start at around $200 ($130 on sale on my site) for the very basic model and can quickly shoot up to the $500-$700 range. Right off that bat that will price a lot of people out of the market!

What About Features?

Tassimo are true single cup machines. They will make a single cup of coffee, espresso, cappuccino, latte, tea, and maybe even soup. They're run with "T-discs" which is Tassimo's proprietary capsule.

Nespresso machines, on the other hand, are more geared towards coffee and especially espresso. These machines are run using Nespresso flavored capsules.

I see a lot of offices use Nespresso machines for the company break room, while I see Tassimo machines used mostly in homes for personal use. That's not to say that you can't use a Nespresso at home, tons of people do. I'm just saying that they tend to be a more professional type machine.

What About Quality?

Just from reading reviews online, I come away with the distinction that Nespresso machines are a little more sturdy and last a while longer than Tassimo. But of course, they cost as much as 3-4 times more so you would expect them to be higher quality machines. Not to say that Tassimo machines are cheap and break a lot, because they aren't and they don't.

What's The Bottom Line?

If you're a hard core coffee or espresso person and you've got the money to spare then the choice is pretty obvious that you should go with a Nespresso machine.

If you're someone who's just looking for a simple one-cup coffee center and aren't all that particular, then a Nespresso is probably overkill and you should stick with Tassimo.

And of course, if money is an issue then definitely go with Tassimo!

Either way I'm sure you're going to enjoy years and years of tasty and easy coffee drinking with either a Tassimo Brew bot or a Nespresso single cup machine. And be sure to order from my site because we usually have massive discounts on both of them!
