DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker

Its hard to track down a decent espresso machine under $100. That's frustrating because a lot of people who are just starting out in the wonderful world of espresso aren't really ready to shell out several hundred (or thousand) dollars on their first machine.

So they buy a cheap one and get disappointed because it doesn't work well. The solution may be the DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker and today I'm going to talk about why.

Let's just get this out of the way before we go any further. The Bar32 retails for $210, but we've got a bunch on sale (see link at bottom of page) for just $93! Don't ask how!

This is a little machine, compact might be a better word, but it's got everything you need to make high quality, delicious espresso from your home in seconds.

Let's Look At The Machine Itself

DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker

This is, in fact, a pump powered machine. Most espresso makers at this price tend to be steam-powered and thus not true espresso machines. This is an important distinction for a very specific reason...

Espresso needs at least 7-bars of pressure in order for the water being forced through the coffee grounds to turn into real espresso. At less than 7-bars of pressure, you just get strong coffee. A steam pump can only muster between 1 and 1.5 bars of pressure. That's why it's so important that this is a true pump powered machine!

I'm not sure why it's called a "retro" machine. Sure, it has a nice rounded design, but is that really a retro design? I'm not sure. It doesn't really matter I guess, when you get right down to it.

One very interesting thing about this machine is that it has the ability to use both regular coffee beans and E.S.E. pods. That's a huge benefit, and one we don't usually see in machines under $300 or so.

You'll notice that there's lots of room under the spout where the espresso comes out. That means you can use a regular sized coffee mug under there, and don't have to use those tiny espresso shot glasses if you don't want to.

Finally, it has a swivel jet frothing wand so that you can make plenty of your favorite espresso drinks like cappuccino, latte, mocha, or whatever else you like.

What Are Other People Saying About It?

Because of the price, people have snapped these up, so it has lots of reviews. At Amazon, there are 181 reviews which is quite a large number for an espresso machine! It has ninety-five 5-star and fifty-one 4-star which is pretty good. It also has fourteen 3-star, seven 2-star, and fourteen 1-star reviews.

All in all that's a solid 4 out of 5 star average making this a very well reviewed espresso machine, at any price!

What's The Bottom Line?

This is a fantastic machine for anyone who's just getting started with home espresso brewing. The price is outstanding and DeLonghi is a very reputable company (one of the industry staple companies). In fact, if it wasn't made by such a strong company, I'd be suspicious of the low price!

But the fact that it's a DeLonghi, and the fact that it has a huge amount of near perfect reviews tells me that you can feel confident with this machine despite it's low price. I highly recommend the DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker for anyone looking to get into home espresso brewing.
