Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine

Capresso is widely regarded as the leader in the high-end super expensive, super automatic espresso machine market. If you've got thousands of dollars to spare and want the best, you usually go with Capresso. But strangely enough, they also offer a super cheap $60 machine called the Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine. Is it worth buying? I'll tackle that question today.

The first reaction people usually have when they hear that Capresso offers a $60 machine is..."WOW!". Their second reaction is usually "Where can I buy it?". Before you rush off to the store, or order from our link below, you need to know a few pretty important things.

Let's Look At The Machine

Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine

Before we look at anything else, I want to draw your attention to the fact that this is a steam powered machine, not pump powered. Espresso is only espresso because of the pump powered pressure that forces water over coffee grounds. Otherwise, it's just coffee.

Steam machines make coffee that's stronger than regular coffee, and almost espresso-esque, but it's NOT ESPRESSO. Even if the box says it is. Even if Capresso calls it the "4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine" don't be fooled.

Does that mean you should stay away from this machine? Not at all! It still makes good strong coffee that you can use to make cappuccino, it just won't be as strong as regular espresso, but it will certainly be better than nothing!

Let's get back to the machine...

It's a spunky little 800 watt machine that comes with a safety boiler cap that has a built in valve. So you shouldn't have to worry about burning yourself - always a plus! It also has a steam frother wand so that you can fluff up your favorite cappuccino and latte drinks.

It's a very small machine, you could easily stash it in the corner of your counter top and almost forget it's there when you aren't using it.

What Are People Saying About It?

Out of 78 reviews at Amazon, thirty-nine gave it a 5-star, fifteen gave it a 4-star, ten gave it a 3-star, four gave it a 2-star, and ten gave it a 1-star review. That's a solid 4 out of 5 average. You can feel comfortable on that count!

The people who gave this machine a poor review tended to have problems with the machine right away and resolved them by sending the machine back, which is a simple solution (if a little bit of a hassle!).

What's the Bottom Line

If you don't have enough money for a real espresso machine, then the Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine is a real steal. For $60 It will do a pretty good job at what it's supposed to do, brew espresso-like drinks. But if you can come up with a little more cash (the Cuisinart EM-100 is only $120 - see review in the Cuisinart Section) you should really bump up to a real espresso machine.
